Politesse (American Motor Boat, 1911).
Served as USS Politesse (SP-662) in 1917-1919
Politesse, 30-foot motor boat, was constructed in 1911
at Waltham, Massachusetts, as a pleasure craft. She was chartered
by the Navy for World War I service in April 1917 and subsequently
served as USS Politesse (SP-662) on section patrol duties
in the Boston area. The boat was returned to her owner in late
May 1919.
This page features all the views we have related to the
motor boat Politesse, which was USS Politesse (SP-662)
in 1917-1919.

Note: The Ships' Histories Branch of the Naval Historical
Center holds another view of the motor boat Politesse,
taken on 4 May 1917, shortly after she entered U.S. Navy service.
This photograph shows her from off the port side, a little toward
the bow, probably at the Boston Navy Yard. The civilian motor
boat Vesta (which had no Navy service) is in the background.
This print is mounted on the "SP" data card for Politesse
(SP-662). The quality of this image is generally better than
those shown above, though the first few inches of the boat's
bow have been cropped off at the left edge of the photo. |
