P.R.R. No.9 (American Harbor Tug, 1904).
Also known as Pennsylvania R.R. No.9.
Served as USS P.R.R. No.9 (SP-679) in 1917-1919

P.R.R. No.9 (or Pennsylvania R.R. No.9), a 92-foot harbor tug, was built at Richmond, Virginia, in 1904. She was acquired by the Navy in September 1917 and placed in service as USS P.R.R. No.9 (SP-679). During the remainder of World War I she operated on tug and minesweeping duties in the New York Harbor area. The tug was returned to her owner in early January 1919.

This page features our only view of the harbor tug P.R.R. No.9, which served as USS P.R.R. No.9 during World War I.

(American Harbor Tug, 1904)

Photograph taken prior to World War I.
The Navy acquired this tug from the Pennsylvania Railroad on 18 September 1917 and placed her in commission on 22 September as USS P.R.R. No.9 (SP-679). She was returned to her owner on 2 January 1919. She is sometimes listed as Penn R.R. No.9 and Pennsylvania R.R. No.9.

The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM.
