Siwash (Motor Boat, 1916).
Served as USS Siwash (SP-12) in 1917-1919
Siwash, a 78-foot motor boat, was built at Morris Heights,
New York, in 1916. She was acquired by the Navy for World War
I service in June 1917 and placed in commission as USS Siwash
(SP-12) two months later. Following patrol duty in the New York
area she was decommissioned in May 1919. Siwash was transferred
to the Department of Commerce in June 1919.

Underway prior to her World War I Navy service.

This pleasure craft was acquired by the Navy on 18 June 1917
and commissioned on 18 August 1917 as USS Siwash (SP-12).
She was transferred to the Department of Commerce on 16 June
1919.

Note: The Ships' Histories Branch of the Naval Historical
Center holds another photograph of the motor boat Siwash,
taken from off her port bow while she was underway, probably
at the same time as Photo # NH 102221 (seen above). This view
is more distant, and slightly tighter on the bow, than NH 102221.
This print is mounted on the "SP" data card for Siwash
(SP-12). |
