Spray (American Steam Trawler, 1905).
Served as USS Spray (ID # 2491) in 1918-1919

Spray, a 283 gross ton steam fishing trawler, was built at Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1905. In 1917 she was purchased by the Imperial Russian Government for World War I use, but the revolution in Russia prevented her from leaving the United States. The U.S. Navy chartered her in May 1918 and placed her in service early in June as Spray (ID # 2491). For the rest of the war, and for the early part of the post-war period, she was employed on minesweeping duties off New York City. Spray was returned to Russian representatives in March 1919.

This page features our only views of the trawler Spray, which served in the U.S. Navy as Spray (ID # 2491) in 1918-1919.
