Susanne, a 60-foot motor boat, was built at Port Clinton, Ohio, before World War I. Just prior to the U.S. entry into that conflict, or shortly afterwards, she was examined for possible U.S. Navy service and given the registry number SP-832. However Susanne was was not taken over and remained in civilian hands.
Note: This motor boat should not be confused with another craft of the same name, also built at Port Clinton, which served during 1917-1919 as USS Susanne (SP-411). The latter motor boat was rather larger (76' 6" long overall), faster, and of completely different appearance.
