S.S. Victorious (American Freighter, 1918).
Served as USS Victorious (ID # 3514) in 1918-1919
S.S. Victorious, a 7898 gross ton (16,400-tons displacement)
freighter, was built at Alameda, California, in 1918 as part of
the World War I shipbuilding program. She was transferred to the
Navy in October 1918 and placed in commission as USS Victorious
(ID # 3514). In November, soon after the Armistice brought an
end to the fighting, she left the West Coast with a cargo of flour,
which she delivered to England in January 1919. After steaming
back across the Atlantic to New York, Victorious was decommissioned in late February and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board.
This page features the only views we have concerning the
freighter Victorious, which was USS Victorious (ID
# 3514) in 1918-1919.
