Waban (American Tug, 1899)

SS Waban, a 163 gross ton steel-hulled tug, was built in 1899 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Subsequently based at Charleston, South Carolina, she was inspected for possible Navy service in March 1918 and assigned the registry ID # 2355. However Waban was not taken over by the Navy and remained in the hands of her civilian owners.

Waban

Photographed prior to World War I.
This 91-foot steel tug was built by Neafie & Levy at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and owned by the Red Band Line of Charleston, South Carolina. She was inspected by the Navy on 13 March 1918 for possible World War I service, and assigned the registry ID # 2355. However, she was not taken over by the Navy.

Waban

Photographed circa 1918.
This tug, owned by the Red Band Line of Charleston, South Carolina, was inspected by the Sixth Naval District on 13 March 1918 for possible Navy use. Though assigned the registry ID # 2355, she was not taken over by the Navy.
