Alfonso XII, a 3042-ton cruiser, was constructed at Ferrol, Spain, and launched in September 1887. Before and during the Spanish-American War, she was stationed at Havana, Cuba. Repatriated to Spain after the war, Alfonso XII was disposed of in 1907.
