USS Baltimore (Cruiser # 3) -- at right
Chromolithograph by Armstrong & Company, after a watercolor by
Fred S. Cozzens, published in "Our Navy -- Its Growth and
Achievements", 1897.
It depicts Baltimore departing New York harbor to carry
the remains of John Ericsson to his native Sweden, in August
1890.
At left, flying the Swedish flag at her forepeak and firing a
salute, is USS Boston.

Cutter race among the crews of the Squadron's ships, in Boston

The Squadron then consisted of the cruisers Chicago, Boston
and Atlanta, gunboat Yorktown and despatch vessel
Dolphin.

Fine screen halftone reproduction of a photograph of the ship's landing force on duty at the Arlington Hotel, Honolulu, at the time of the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy, January 1893. Lieutenant Lucien Young, USN, commanded the detachment, and is presumably the officer at right.
The original photograph is in the Archives of Hawaii. This halftone was published prior to about 1920.

Steams out through the Golden Gate, California, late in 1895,
en route to the western Pacific. During this three-and-a-half
year deployment, Boston participated in the Battle of
Manila Bay and other Spanish-American War activities.
