USS Bobylu (ID # 1513), 1917-1918.
Originally the Civilian motor boat Bobylu (1915)

USS Bobylu, a 35' 10" motor boat, was built in 1915 at Davis, North Carolina, for employment in the regional fisheries. She was leased by the Navy in October 1917 and placed in commission as USS Bobylu (ID # 1513). Following World War I use in the Norfolk, Virginia, area, the craft was decommissioned and returned to her owner at the end of December 1918.

Bobylu
(American Motor Boat, 1915)

Photographed prior to her World War I Navy service.
Owned by the North Carolina Fisheries Commission, this craft was built at Davis, North Carolina, in 1915. She served as USS Bobylu (ID # 1513) in 1917-1918.

In port, circa 1917-1918.
Built in 1915, this craft was acquired by the Navy on 22 October 1917. Following service in the Fifth Naval District, she was returned to her owner 31 December 1918.

The original photograph is in Record Group 19-LCM in the National Archives.
