USS Chipper (SP-256), 1917-1918.
Later renamed SP-256.

Chipper, a 69-foot motor pleasure boat built in 1913 by the New York Launch and Engine Company, was taken over the Navy in mid-June 1917 under a lease agreement with her owner, C. Wetherill of Erika, Virginia. She was placed in commission as USS Chipper (SP-256) about six weeks later, in late July, and spent the rest of World War I performing Section Patrol duties in the Atlantic Coast region. Renamed SP-256 in April 1918, she was returned to her owner early in December of that year.

This page features all the views we have concerning USS Chipper (SP-256) and USS SP-256.
