USS Charles Mann (SP-522), 1917-1920

USS Charles Mann, a 79 gross ton harbor tug, was built in 1903 at South Portland, Maine, for civilian use. Purchased by the Navy and placed in commission in June 1917, she performed patrol and towing duties in the vicinity of Boston, Massachusetts, during World War I and later. Charles Mann was decommissioned in November 1919 and sold in February 1920.

At the Boston Navy Yard, circa 1917-20, with USS Constitution in the background.
Built in 1903, this tug was acquired by the Navy on 6 June 1917 and commissioned a day later. Following World War I service, Charles Mann was sold on 27 February 1920.

The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM.
