USS Dorchester (ID # 1509), 1917-1918

Dorchester, a 50-foot Chesapeake Bay "Bugeye" type schooner, was built in 1893. She was acquired by the Navy in August 1917 and placed in commission as USS Dorchester (ID # 1509). After World War I service in the Fifth Naval District's Maryland and Virginia waters, she was decommissioned and returned to her owner, the Conservation Commission of Maryland, on 26 November 1918.

With sails raised and a motor boat alongside, during World War I, probably in the Chesapeake Bay area.
This "bugeye" schooner was acquired by the Navy on 24 August 1917 and returned to her owner, the Conservation Commission of Maryland, on 26 November 1918.
