USS Embattle (AM-226), 1945-1946

USS Embattle, a 650-ton Admirable class minesweeper, was built at Lorain, Ohio. Commissioned in April 1945, she was headed for the Western Pacific when Japan agreed to surrender in August of that year. During late 1945 and early 1946 she was employed in postwar mine clearance operations in the Ryukyu Islands and off Japan. USS Embattle decommissioned at Shanghai, China, in late May 1946 and was transferred to China. She subsequently had over four decades' service in the Republic of China's Navy and Customs Service, under the name Hung Hsing (sometimes transliterated as Yung Hsing).

This page features our only view of USS Embattle (AM-226).
