USS E. Benson Dennis (SP-791), 1917-1919

USS E. Benson Dennis, a 100 gross ton patrol vessel, was built in 1901 by C.W. Crockett of Pocomoke City, Maryland, for commercial use in the East Coast fishing trade. She was acquired by the Navy in mid-May 1917 and spent nearly two years assigned to the Fifth Naval District, performing net patrol and guard duty. USS E. Benson Dennis was decommissioned in March 1919 and returned to her owner, E. Benson Dennis of Cape Charles, Virginia.

Hauled out of the water in August 1917.
Note that her bow bears traces of a different number (possibly "347") than that she actually was assigned.

USS E. Benson Dennis
(SP-791)

In port during the World War I era.
Built in 1901 by C.W. Crockett of Pocomoke City, Maryland, this "Menhaden Fisherman" was taken over by the Navy on 14 May 1917 and placed in commission the next day. She was decommissioned and returned to her owner, E. Benson Dennis of Cape Charles, Virginia, on 12 March 1919.

The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM.
