On 1 March 1950, the U.S. Army Transport Fred C. Ainsworth was transferred to the Military Sea Transportation Service and became U.S. Naval Ship (USNS) Fred C. Ainsworth. She served actively on troop transportation duties through the 1950s, including trans-Pacific operations during the Korean War. Fred C. Ainsworth was placed out of service in November 1959 and transferred to the Maritime Administration. She was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register in July 1961.
