USS Fresno (ID # 3063), 1918-1919.
Originally, and later, S.S. Fresno (American Freighter, 1918)

Fresno, a 6002 gross ton (12,600 tons displacement) freighter built at Oakland, California, was completed in June 1918. She was commissioned in the Navy on 22 June 1918 as USS Fresno (ID # 3063) and sailed from the Mare Island Navy Yard for New York some days later with a cargo of flour and Navy stores. In early August the ship joined a convoy at Norfolk, Virginia, bound for Le Havre, France, where she arrived at the end of the month. Returning to New York at the end of September, Fresno underwent repairs and then joined a convoy for St. Nazaire, France, at the beginning of November. She returned to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in early January 1919 and subsequently carried out two more round-trip voyages to Europe. Fresno was decommissioned at New York on 4 August 1919 and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board. She remained in that agency's hands until scrapped in 1938.

This page features the only views we have concerning USS Fresno (ID # 3063) and S.S. Fresno.
