USS Lake Daraga (ID # 4428), 1918-1919.
Originally, and later, S.S. Lake Daraga (American Freighter, 1918).

Lake Daraga, a 2371 gross ton freighter, was completed at Wyandotte, Michigan, in July 1918. Later in that month she was commissioned in the Navy at Montreal, Canada, as USS Lake Daraga (ID # 4428) and soon sailed in a convoy from Nova Scotia, arriving early in September 1918 at Le Havre, France. For the next year Lake Daraga carried coal from Cardiff, Wales, and other British Isles ports to France in support of the U.S. Army. She was transferred from Army to Navy account in mid-March 1919 and carried coal for the Navy until reverting to Army account at the beginning of May. With her work in European waters at an end, Lake Daraga left Brest, France, for the United States in late October 1919. She was decommissioned at New York in November 1919. Returned to the U.S. Shipping Board at that time, the ship was scrapped by the Ford Motor Company in 1928.

This page features the only view we have concerning S.S. Lake Daraga and USS Lake Daraga (ID # 4428).
