USS Lucille Ross, a wooden steam tug of 49 gross tons, was built in 1893 at Baltimore, Maryland, for civilian employment. The Navy chartered her in April 1917 and placed her in commission for World War I service. She operated in the Fifth Naval District, based at Norfolk, Virginia, on patrol, inspection, lighthouse support and towing duties. Lucille Ross was returned to her owners in June 1919.
