USS Niagara (SP-263), 1917-1919.
Previously civilian motor boat Niagara (1915)
Niagara, a 50-foot motor pleasure craft, was built in
1915 by E.A. Fonda of Miami, Florida. She was purchased by the
Navy in early July 1917, some two months after she was commissioned
as USS Niagara (SP-263). Renamed SP-263 in April
1918, she spent her entire Navy career in Florida waters on patrol
duties. Her Navy service ended in late May 1919 when she was transferred
to the U.S. Lighthouse Service.
This page features all the views we have concerning the
motor boat Niagara, both before and during her World War
I Navy service.
