USS Nirvana (SP-706), 1917-1919.
Later renamed SP-706.
Originally a civilian motor boat, named Nirvana and Tarpon II.

The 40-foot motor pleasure boat Tarpon II was built by S.G. Banner of Staten Island, New York, in 1915. Later renamed Nirvana, she was taken over by the Navy in May 1917 and commissioned as USS Nirvana (SP-706) in August of that year. She served as a patrol boat in the New York Harbor area during 1917. In April 1918 she was transferred to the Great Lakes for similar duties and renamed SP-706. No longer required after the end of World War I, she was returned to her owner in January 1919.

This page features the only views we have concerning the motor boat Nirvana and USS Nirvana (SP-706).
