USS PCS-1405, 1944-1947
USS PCS-1405, a 136-foot submarine chaser built at Greenport,
Long Island, New York, was commissioned at the beginning of February
1944. After shaking down in the Caribbean Sea she operated on
patrol and escort duty between southern Florida and Guantanamo
Bay, Cuba. In June 1945 PCS-1405 went to the Pacific, where
she was based at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, for some six months. Returning
to the West Coast in February 1946, she was modified for survey
work. USS PCS-1405 was decommissioned in August of that
year and turned over to the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. She
was stricken from the Naval Register in February 1947.
