USS Santa Elisa, a 5281 gross ton transport, was built in 1919 at Camden, New Jersey, as the civilian passenger steamship Santa Elisa. Taken over by the Navy when completed in June 1919 and placed in commission at that time, between then and mid-September she made two round-trip voyages to bring home American service personnel from France. The ship was decommissioned in October 1919 and returned to her owners, W.R. Grace and Company. She had a long subsequent commercial career, both as S.S. Santa Elisa and, from 1936, as S.S. Baranof and was not scrapped until 1955.
This page features all the views we have concerning USS Santa Elisa (ID # 4352) and the civilian passenger liner Santa Elisa and Baranof.
