USS Sayona II (SP-1109), 1917-1918.
Previously the Civilian Motor Boat Tip Top and Sayona
II
USS Sayona II, a 60' 6" patrol boat, was built
in 1907 at Crosby, Massachusetts, for use as a pleasure craft.
Named Tip Top and Sayona II during the next decade,
in July 1917 she was leased by the Navy and placed in service
in August. For the rest of World War I, the boat operated in the
vicinity of Hampton Roads, Virginia. She was returned to her owner
in late December 1918.

Sayona II (American Motor Boat, 1907)
Underway, prior to her World War I Naval service.
Formerly named Tip Top, this motor pleasure craft was
acquired by the Navy and commissioned on 3 August 1917 as USS
Sayona II (SP-1109). She was returned to her owner on
30 December 1918.

Sayona II (American Motor Boat, 1907)
Photographed in port, before her World War I Naval service.
This pleasure craft, which was formerly named Tip Top,
was acquired by the Navy and commissioned on 3 August 1917 as
USS Sayona II (SP-1109). She was returned to her owner
on 30 December 1918.

USS Sayona II (SP-1109)
In a Fifth Naval District port, circa 1917-1919.
The motor boat Sayona II, built in 1907, was acquired
by the Navy and commissioned on 3 August 1917. Following World
War I service she was returned to her owner on 30 December 1918.
The boat at left appears to be USS Idylease (SP-119),
which served in the Fifth Naval District.
Note ice on the water.
