USS Shrewsbury, a 98-foot patrol craft, was built in
1910 at South Boston, Massachusetts, for use as a pleasure boat.

in commission for service along the Central Atlantic coast. USS
Shrewsbury was stricken from the Navy list in mid-September

Note: The Ships' Histories Branch of the Naval Historical
Center holds one other photo of the motor boat Topsy (later
renamed Shrewsbury), taken prior to her Navy service.
This image was taken from off her port side, somewhat toward
her bow, while she was just offshore. The location may be New
York City, as several large buildings are in the background.
Topsy's hull is painted white and her upperworks are dark.
The original print is mounted on the "SP" data card
for Shrewsbury (SP-70). |
