San Felipe, a 106-foot long steel tug with a 500-horsepower steam engine, was built at Hong Kong in 1907 for the U. S. Army Engineer Corps and named Engineer. The Army loaned Engineer to the Navy in December 1917, and she served as a Naval vessel until returned to the Army in late 1918 or early 1919. In June 1922 the Army offered the tug to the Navy, and in October the Navy accepted her as a replacement for the ferry Callao (YFB-11), then operating in the Philippines between Manila and the Cavite Navy Yard. The tug was renamed San Felipe in November 1922 and classified as a ferry boat (YFB-12). She was scheduled for replacement in 1942, but was lost in January 1942 during the Japanese conquest of the Philippines. She was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register in July 1942.
