USS Undaunted, a 450 gross ton tug, was built in 1917 at San Francisco, California, as the civilian tug of the same name. She was taken over by the Navy after completion and placed in commission in early February 1918, with the registry ID # 1950. During the remainder of World War I Undaunted served in French waters and in 1919 returned to the West Coast, where she remained for the next two decades, primarily based at San Francisco. The tug was twice redesignated during this time, becoming AT-58 in July 1920 and YT-125 in February 1936.
In the spring of 1939 Undaunted was transferred from California waters to Norfolk, Virginia. She again became AT-58 in July 1940 and spent the World War II years operating in the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay area. In May 1944 the now elderly tug was redesignated ATO-58. Decommissioned at the beginning of July 1946, USS Undaunted was stricken from the Navy list in September of that year and disposed of in March 1947.
This page features all the views we have related to USS Undaunted (ID # 1950, later AT-58, YT-125, AT-58 and ATO-58) and to the civilian tug Undaunted.
