USS Walke (Destroyer # 34), 1911-1935 --
"Hard Hat" Diving from the Ship, circa March 1914

Perhaps as a result of hull damage seen on another page in this series, on 3 March 1914 (based on dates written on some original photographic negatives), Walke played host to a "hard hat" diving team whose equipment included an extensive array of diving support apparatus, among which was a decompression chamber. The photographs on this page feature views of diving operations, personnel and equipment, presumably all taken at or about this time.

This page features some of the photographs from a collection related to the crew and activities of USS Walke (Destroyer # 34) in about 1914.

For a general description of this collection and more images from it, see:

  • USS Walke (Destroyer # 34) -- Crew and Activities, circa 1914.
