USS Wendy (SP-448), 1917-1918.
Originally the civilian motor boat Wendy (1913)

USS Wendy, a 55-foot section patrol boat, was built in 1913 as a civilian pleasure craft. She was acquired from her New Orleans, Louisiana, owner in July 1917 and placed in commission early in August. For the rest of World War I Wendy was used on patrol duties in the New Orleans area. She was decommissioned and returned to her owner in December 1918.

Wendy
(American Motor Boat, 1913)

Underway, prior to her World War I era Navy service.
This pleasure boat was acquired by the Navy on 1 July 1917 and placed in commission as USS Wendy (SP-448) on 3 August. She was returned to her owner, C.A. Sporl of New Orleans, Louisiana, on 9 December 1918.

Underway during the World War I era.
This former pleasure craft was acquired by the Navy on 1 July 1917 and placed in commission on 3 August. She was decommissioned and returned to her owner on 9 December 1918.
Note Sailor manning her bow gun, a 1-pounder. Wendy's stern weapon is a Colt machine gun. She is flying a 48-star Jack on her starboard signal halliard.
