USS Wachusetts (SP-548), 1917-1919.
Later renamed SP-548
Previously the civilian motor vessel Wachusetts (built as W.T.C.U in 1916)

W.T.C.U., a 101-foot, 65 gross ton diesel-powered craft of fishing boat design, was built in 1916 at Friendship, Maine. Later renamed Wachusetts, she was taken over by the Navy in late April 1917 for World War I service. Placed in commission as USS Wachusetts (SP-548), she operated in northern New England waters. Her name was changed to SP-548 in 1918, probably to avoid confusion with the cargo ship Wachusett (ID # 1840). SP-548 was stricken in October 1919 and reportedly transferred to the Bureau of Fisheries.

This page features the only view we have concerning USS Wachusetts (SP-548), which was renamed SP-548 in 1918.
