In Problem 4.3 it was found that when the graph of is much closer to a straight line than when . It is true in general that as gets closer to 1, the function gets closer to a linear function.

Recall that in (heat flow in a slab) the graph of the temperature distributions is a straight line.

Problem 37 - homework! :

In this problem you are to show that when the rate of heat flow in the radial direction, , can be approximated to within 1% by the comparable rate of heat flow in a plane plate (see Example 1).
