Saluda Shoals, SC 9/6/99

I checked Saluda Shoals Park in Irmo, SC, this morning to see if
any nice migrants would be around following the remains of Dennis from
last night. It wasn't bad, as I ended up with 9 warbler species,
most seen in the trees at the edge of the powerline clearing, near
where the lines cross the Saluda River. These included
5 Chestnut-Sided,
a beautiful pair of fall Magnolias,
a Worm-Eating,
a Yellow-throated,
and a shy Yellow-breasted Chat in the thick growth under the lines.
I also found a pair of Wood Thrushes in the woods.

The area under the power lines is excellent also for butterflies,
worth checking out. Many vines are in bloom, as well as Evening
Primrose, and the Goldenrod is ready to burst out.

By 9am all was silent. A notable miss on my list was Mourning Dove!
