There is one good thing (in my opinion) that has come out of the
reconfiguration of the roads around RDU. If you can figure out how to get
to the "original" section of Aviation Pkwy you will be pretty much by
yourself, without all those cars whizzing by at 60+ mph. This section is
great for hawks, many perched just a few feet away on the airport's
perimeter fence. You can also view the shallow end of the reservoir
without much, if any traffic, bothering you. There are also a couple of
small impoundements that almost always hold Hooded Mergs during the winter.
The only traffic causing item currently back there is a cement factory and
the only traffic is a trickle of heavy trucks.
