I am surrounded by a small woods and they drop a million leaves! So I've
also started using fallen leaves as mulch, even though I've heard they are
not good to use. I've read that one problem is the leaves tend to mat
together to form a barrier against water, oxygen and light as they
decompose. So we run the lawnmower over them to chop the leaves. This has
worked very well. Another thing you may want to be a little careful of is
what type of leaves you use around plants; i.e., oak leaves are very acidic
and I don't know what would happen long-term if you use them to mulch
non-acid loving plants.
