I'd say this is vote 3 then. I'd definitely go for having the FAQ posted
every month or 2 months or even 3 months (quarterly). Probably weekly or
bi-weekly would be too often. But posting the whole FAQ, in sections as you
say, would be a tremendous help. And call me crazy but I guess I'm not seeing
what the huge disadvantage would be of posting it that often. For my part, I
don't mind the volume. And as for the person whose job it would be, I would
think that once the hard work of compiling and editing the thing is done,
splitting it into chunks and posting it to the group would be a relatively
easy (though perhaps mind-numbingly repetitive) task.
One suggestion, if this does ever happen: To make it easier for those who pay
per byte (and others as well) to better navigate the FAQ, it would be nice if
it were broken down by subject headings. In other words, break it down into
sections along actual chapter or sub-chapter lines, and include the topic(s)
in the subject line of the post. This avoids people sifting through huge
files with non-helpful names like
GARDENING FAQ -- PART 8 OF 23
GARDENING FAQ -- PART 9 OF 23
and so on, in favor of helpful ones like
Gardening FAQ (8 of 23): Mulch
Gardening FAQ (9 of 23): Tubers
Gardening FAQ (10 of 23): Birds, Bugs & Brethren
Any way it turns out I'll still be pleased as pie with this newsgroup.
