Sri:
Srimathe Ramanujaya nama:
Dear Devotee,
Here we are discussing the mindset behind the act. As
per sri piLLai lOkAcAryA's mumukshuppadi, mantras like gOpAla
mantram, rAma mantram, hayagrIva etc are for certain benefits and
lot of people write these namas for gaining something! AsTAkshari
stands apart from all these that it explains the actual relation
between the jIvAtmA and paramAtma that once the jIvAtmA catches
and "understands" this point(and then practising it!), it shouldn't
worry about itself.
Just for the same reason that you're saying 'there is nothing wrong
in calling Om namO vEnkaTEshAya as asTAkshari', the objection was
raised! vEnkaTEshAya mantram(or any other mantram) doesn't tell what
is the relation between the jIvAtmA and paramAtmA. If you can call
anything as asTAkshari, well, then you can call my name as
asTAkshari also! There will be no end to this type of non-sensical
talks. The objection raised by Sri guna venkat was wrt our attitude
and not Jeeyar's attitude which is right. But our attitude is not at
the same level as Jeeyar's attitude. With what mindset, people are
wtiting these nAmAs is the question in concern. Thsi mindset depends
only on the true understanding of the nArAyaNa mantram and not any
other mantram. Hardcore R's devotees with more knowledge will talk
on my behalf!
nArAyaNa is the Super set and all other names are subsets and subset
can never equal the Superset. Note that subset has some features of
the superset but neither qualitatively nor quantitatively it equals
the Superset. To illustrate the point, my favorite was(and still)is
srIrAmA. But I didn't have the knowledge of the true relation
between me and God until I understood nArAyaNa mantram. srIrAma
mantram didn't give me that understanding! And precisely for the
same reason(understanding of the nArAyaNa mantram)that my attitude
towards everything has changed dramatically. Once people start
labelling anything as asTAkshari, then it becomes some "X"s
sampradAyam/mumukshuppadi and not srIrAmAnuja sampradAyam or
sripiLLai's lokAcAryA's mumukshuppadi.
