Pranamams,
I also saw that program in Chandana Channel of Doordarshan. It is an
Adhyatmic Question/Answer Program called "Satya Darshana" where eminent
Vedantic Scholar Sri. Pavagada Prakasha Rao answers users doubts on
Philosophy, Rituals etc.,
One viewer had asked why the Thripundaram are worn by some Vaishnavas
especially Sri. Vaishnavas and what is the prominence of it.
For that Sri. Rao quoted Srivaishnava Tradition that these Thripundras are
the symbol of Narayana's Padam. He did not mention that it is of Trimuthys.
He said that using Thripundram on devotees is fine because it is the symbol
of Lords padam but he wondered why these padam symbol is being put on the
Lords face like in many Srivaishnava Temples including Tirumala Srinivasa
perumal.
Request the knowledgebale persons from this group to advice on this
thripundram on Lords face.

Subject: [SriRangaSri] Urdhva Pundram
Dear Vedantins,
Pranams!
In one of the programmes in Kannada Doordashan, a vendantin when answering a
question on Urdhva Pundra dharana said that
"they resemble Lord Pada and in fact the three verticle lines resembles
padas of trimurthys"
While I understand it is partly true (not padas of trimuthys although, as
the two lines resembles Lord's padas and the middle resembles Lakshmi), he
further wondered that while he urdhva pundrams on a devotee, why should
Lord is also shown sporting Urdhva Pundram.
Can someone kindly let me know the reason as to why Lord and his
bhakthas(Anjaneya etc.,) sport urdhva pundram. As far as pramanam goes
there are aplenty that Krishna sports Kasturi tilakam etc., but what is
yukthi behind this.
Is it because Lord likes what his bhakthas like and decorate himself as his
bhakthas decorate.
Regards
sukumar
