Swamy Deshikan Thiruvadigale Sharanam !!!

Today in the evening, Swamy enjoyes the Hamsa vAhanam. In this posting we shall
enjoy Swamy as a Paramahamsa.

"Deshika the Paramahamsa"

There is a popular maxim in the Sanskrit lore known as ?Hamsa-ksheera nyAya?
-From a jar of diluted milk, a swan imbibes only the rich milk leaving out the
water behind.

It is because of this quality that acharyas are embellished with the sobriquet
?Paramahamsa?. That is because they have the ability to choose the superlative
leaving behind the lesser ones behind. Our acharyas have chosen the cream
essence of purports from the Vedas and have discarded the rest. They have
propagated this to the subjects effecting their spiritual elevation.

Deshika, an Acharya of the highest caliber is also a Paramahamsa, who has
propagated the superlative purports (?sAratamamAna vishayaNgaL?) to the
subjects. He has upheld these sAratama vishayangaL in each and every work of
his. As Pillai Lokacharya rightly points out, ?OronRuthAnE amaiyAdO vAzhvArkku
vAnErappOmaLavum vAzhvu? ? ?Even a single work of Swamy Deshika, if perused and
pursued, is sufficient enough to open the gates of beatitude to the nomads on
the earth?. Every work of Swamy Deshika enshrines these superlative truths in
easy ways for everyone to follow and understand. One should indeed approach the
feet of a sadacharya and imbibe this nectar like truths seeking his benevolence
and grace.

Swamy Deshika?s Acharya was popularly known as ?vAdihamsAmbuvAhar?. He was like
the dark rain bearing cloud to the swans that hailed from other adverse systems
of philosophies. These swans unable to bear the heavy shower like refutations
of Appullar ran for cover hither and thither. But Deshika on the other hand is
a swan with a difference. He imbibed this pure nectar like shower from Appullar
and drowned himself in that stream to great depths. He was spiritually raised
and cared by Appullar as if one would bring up a parrot with all love and
fondness. Swamy fondly quotes this in one of his rahasya granthams.

May our minds on this day be blessed with an unstinted devotion to the lotus
feet of this royal swan of teh Lord's court - ?Paramahamsa parivrAjaka Swamy
Deshika? !!!
