Accessibility Features of The Walker Percy Project Website
Accessibility Features Included in this Website
As an educational website intending to reach as wide an audience as possible, The Walker Percy Project website has been created with the following core accessibility features. These features include:
- All content and interactive tools on each page are provided with instructions in clear, concise language.
- All page content is provided in a logical and intuitive order from header to content to footer.
- Relative font-size values are used to allow the user to re-size text for easier reading using browser and keyboard controls.
- Hyperlinks are written as descriptive text, and title tags have been used for each link.
- Alternate text has been used for images to assist users of text-to-speech browsers and text-only browsers.
- All links pointing to pages outside of this website will open in a new browser window. The attributes of these windows can be controlled by the user.
- "Skip to Content" and "Skip to Navigation" links have been added to the top of every page to allow users of text-to-speech browsers easy page navigation.
- This website offers a link to a website Sitemap in the footer of every page.
- Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) control the layout and visual presentation of the website.
- This website does not use Flash or other animated content as of this page's last update listed on the bottom of this page.
- This website does not use applets or other related technologies requiring plug-ins as of this page's last update listed on the bottom of this page.
Note: This website does not make use of the accesskey attribute for a wide variety of reasons, primarily because of conflicts between accesskey assignments and the existence of no standard navigation mechanism designed into varying assistive technology and website browsers.
