Battalion

Initially, the US military had a non-fraternization policy in Germany, with a $65 fine for talking to a German girl and potential court martial for more brazen offenses. The policy had largely failed by July and was relaxed that month and finally dropped in October. Army investigators estimated that up to 90 percent of American troops fraternized with German women in 1946.
