Integrating Streams into Your WEB Pages

Integrating Streams into Your WEB Pages

You can serve streams to end-users of the StreamWorks Player by adding to your Web Pages references to your StreamWorks Server's streams.
To integrate streams into your WEB Pages, you must complete the following procedures:
Depending on the nature of the streams, you can implement various strategies for integrating streams into your WEB pages, e.g., a single link in your WEB page can serve different streams to end-users based on time of day or end-user connection speed; read Creating PLAY Files for details.
NOTE: If you need help creating your Web pages, a growing number of reference materials are available. A good place to start is NetScape's "Creating Net Sites" page (http://home.netscape.com/assist/net_sites/index.html), where you'll find links to sites offering on-line documentation.

Creating Links to XDM Files for Helper Application Users

Links to XDM files are like any other Hypertext reference in an HTML document; e.g., if you have stored the XDM file and HTML document in the same directory on your Web server's file system, you can create a link in the following form:
<A HREF="MyFile.xdm">VisibleText</A>
Where "MyFile.xdm" is the name of your XDM file, and "VisibleText" is the text that appears as the hypertext link when the HTML document is viewed by a WEB Browser; e.g., if your XDM file is named "audiofile1.xdm", the following HTML code creates a link that appears as "My Audio File Number1":
<A HREF="audiofile1.xdm>My Audio File Number1</A>

How it Works

When the Helper application version of the StreamWorks Player is installed on an end-user's computer, it is registered as a Web browser Helper; e.g., on a PC with Windows the helper registration looks like this:
application/x-xdma --- .xdm, --- .xdma --- \streamwk\streamwk.exe
This helper registration causes the user's Browser to launch the StreamWorks Player whenever it receives a file with the ".XDM" or ".XDMA" extension. The StreamWorks Player reads from the XDM file your URL-style stream specification and sends to your server a request for the specified stream.
