It's very hard to believe it's true.  But if it is, it is inexplicable.  
It sounds like some sort of urban legend intended to justify the use of 
interlinears.  About which you can only be urged to avoid them.  They 
will not help you in the long run because their use will really inhibit 
your actually learning Greek.  You will find yourself always drawn to 
the english rendering and will become adept at pretending knowledge of 
Greek while not really possessing that knowledge.  Many of my pastoral 
comrades are in that exact boat and it is, to be charitable, deceptive 
to pretend knowledge that you don't possess.  Interlinears are the 
plague- avoid them.
