This the way I studied for the GSFLT in grad school. I bought
anthologies and read; I did not study the grammar (which I had previously
studied), and I made it a practice to look up no word that wasn't
essential to understanding the passage. The emphasis was on reading a
large quantity in the language (You can always take time to analyze a
passage at leisure at some other time).

I have a question that deals with this; I am participating in a study group that is going through the first book of the Iliad.
We have almost completed it. We submit our translation of 10-15 lines per week, which are then commented on by the guides.
This type of study pretty well requires that one analyses the text and knows the meaning of every word.
I actually enjoy this type of study.
My plan is to continue with book 2 on my own.
My question is this; Should I abandon this study strategy and try read through the following books of the Iliad looking up as few words as possible?
Thank you.
