EI DE TEKNA KAI KLHRONOMOI KLHRONOMOI MEN QEOU SUGKLHRONOMOI DE CRISTOU

Here, the construct KLHRONOMOI MEN QEOU is, for all intents and purposes,
identical to SUG-KLHRONOMOI DE CRISTO. Noun + particle + genetive, virtually
being- to my albeit perhaps undiscerning eye- the same construct with simply
an exchange of words.

The first clause is almost always translated "heirs of God" given the direct
sense with the particle "heirs, on the one hand, of God". So, the genetive
is being translated as "of X" which I expect.

But the second clause is almost always translated "co-heirs with Christ"
given the same sense "co-heirs, on the other hand, with Christ" with the
particle. Then, the genetive is being translated as "with X" which I do not
expect.

Given the "men...de" clause, it seems to me to say "these are the same
constructs which are being contrasted" and I cannot understand why the
second genetive is being translated as "with" and not as "of" as it is in
the first instance.

Why is this? What is it in this construct that is causing the majority of
translators to translate the genetives differently? What am I missing?

Thanks,

Nicholas Plant
