George,

I do not disagree with you in one sense. In the early
Twentieth Century existed the last of a dying breed
(I'm referring to when they were educated). C.F.D.
Moule, F.F. Bruce and C.K. Barrett were educated in
the Greek and Latin classics before turning to a
specialization in New Testament. I always envied their
ability to read the New Testament against the backdrop
of Greek literature. I still wonder if it is wise to
try to recreate their experience for someone trying to
learn New Testament Greek later in life. You are
aiming high, something I usually do not find fault
with.

David,

I think Classical Greek and New Testament Greek are a
little more different than Australian and American
English. Perhaps the Shakespeare analogy was a little
bit of a stretch, but not by too much. I think the
respective apogees of the analogy holds true.

ex animo

Hugh
