Subject: Using vocabulary cards

In addition to reading Greek texts, translations, and other activities
to learn the language, I still find vocabulary cards useful.
To make it manageable, I purchased a box of No. 3 coin envelopes and
labeled 31 of them with numbers from 1 to 31. I initially filled each
with fifteen cards starting
with Mounce's Basics of Biblical Greek Vocabulary Cards. There are
are others. Fifteen was a number that I could easily handle in a day,
but the envelopes could probably handle twice that. As the day
progresses, when time permits, I pull out the envelope and flip
through the cards. If there are some I have not mastered I add those
to the next day's packet. At the end of the month, I restock the
envelopes with new cards but only after doing a "final review" of each
envelope. I retain for the next month any that were not remembered.
I have added to the initial card selection with words garnered from
other texts such as the Church Fathers and the Septuagint. In
addition I have added cards with verb forms. You can buy blank cards
at most office supply stores. Avery has a "business card" form that
works real well and can allow you to type the cards and print them.
Be careful in keeping the backs mated to the right fronts!

It has proved to be a simple, effective way, to turn a few minutes of
otherwise unused time to add to the knowledge of the language.
Ben
