    "Valley Forge Sailors Enjoy Leave in Japan -- M. Dean Johnson, Airman, USN, (left) ... with two shipmates from the Puget Sound Country, Miner C. Hazen, Airman, USN, ... and Korval I. Wickton, Jr., Airman, USN, ... give their dinner orders to the Japanese waitress at the Maipei Hotel, Karuizawa, Japan, while on rest leave after extended sea duty in the Far East aboard USS Valley Forge."

    Imperial Palace Grounds, Tokyo, Japan


    "Liberty in Tokyo -- All sailors and other servicemen on liberty find themselves sooner or later at the Imperial Palace grounds. Here a group squint through their camera viewfinders at the most photographed spot in Tokyo. The palace grounds are completely surrounded by a moat for the protection of the emperors; and the grounds used to be known as 'Chiyodo-Jo', or everlasting castle. The building shown in the picture is a fortress along the outer walls."
    Photograph and caption were released by Commander Naval Forces, Far East, under date of 9 October 1952.
