Acting Boatswain Thomas Gauley, CSN
Photographed by Rideau, 38 Quai de l'Avant Port, Cherbourg, France circa the Civil War era.
The original photograph is mounted on a Carte de Visite.
Note: The subject of this photograph appears to be ambiguous. The original print was identified him only as a Boatswain of CSS Georgia (which was at Cherbourg in the latter part of 1863). The identification as Thomas Gauley (who appears to have only served in Virginia waters) was added later.
U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
