U.S. Frigate Constitution defeats HMS Java,
29 December 1812


Engraving after a painting attributed to Sarneray. The original print bears the inscription: "Drawn under the direction of a witness of the action by W.G.". It depicts Constitution (at left) dismasting Java off the coast of Brazil.

The original print is in the Beverly R. Robinson Collection, U.S. Naval Academy Museum, Annapolis, Maryland.
