S.S. Casco
(American Freighter, 1910)

In port, possibly on or about 8 November 1917 when she was inspected by the 12th Naval District.
The former German merchantman Elmshorn, this ship was transferred to the Navy on 7 January 1918 and placed in commission the following day as USS Casco (ID # 1957). She was decommissioned on 22 March 1919 and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board.
Note that she is flying a Union Jack in this photograph, though painted in peacetime civilian style.
